QUICK Example: What if we test the entire USA population?
Providing a quick example to frame the likely realities of testing the entire population of the USA and all of its territories.
This after both hearing and observing a number of conversations discussing what it will take to confidently lift "Stay-at-Home" orders ... and begin the process of accelerating an Economic Recovery both here in the USA and around the world.
Population Scope
Indeed, for the sake of speed, I simply pulled what population stats were currently available on Wikipedia (ref: link below). I rounded up the Census Population, Estimate for July 1, 2019 of 331,814,684 to 350-Million. I then set the target to Send Kits at 100%.

Test Kits
What I am thinking here is ... every Test Kit sent would include:
Test Analyzers
Here is what I am thinking ... every Test Analyzer would:
Test Progress Updates & Communication - Metrics / Stats
A public facing website dedicated to testing information and progress updates would include (and update in real-time) the stats listed on the Path to Active Testing Timeline tab in the downloadable spreadsheet below.
My Quick Example
It is easy to download and take a look at what I pulled together in about ~ 3-hours ... to get a baseline sense of what it would take to test the entire USA population.

Test Kits
What I am thinking here is ... every Test Kit sent would include:
- Minimal, but durable packaging that provide high-confidence they will arrive at the correct location, with zero-damage.
- Three (3) quantity Test Sample Sub-Kits, meaning the ability for each person to submit three (3) test samples, sending one (1) test sample every ___ # of days.
- Clear visual instructions would be included in the most common USA languages.
- Simple and clear identification methods would setup the process for very high confidence that the correct recipients information is provided and included (e.g., ref existing proven test processes and practices).
- More I could say, but keeping this brief for now.
Test Analyzers
Here is what I am thinking ... every Test Analyzer would:
- Include all of the hardware necessary to isolate the focus on securely and accurately processing and reporting Test Samples both efficiently and with the highest confidence.
- Likely include: test analyzer unit / hardware, custom dedicated laptop, data transfer cord, power cord, mouse, surge-protector, bar-code scanner, etc.
- Distribution of Test Analyzers would be allocated in proportion to each state's or territory's population. Reference the Quick Distribution tab in the downloadable spreadsheet below.
- Of course, the number of test-samples that each test-analyzer can process per day, will need to be based on realistic expectations and consistent high standards of execution (ref: Path to Active Testing Timeline tab in downloadable spreadsheet below > Row 32, Item 27).
- More I could say, but leaving it here for now.

- Planning Steps and Progress
- Manufacturing Stats
- Distribution Stats
- Execution Stats
- Other relevant stats to monitor, fine-tune and maintain accountability + confidence.

- $ Dollars of course would need to be updated / edited / validated to reflect realities
- Timeline as well, would need to be updated / edited / validated to reflect realities.
- Overall, it gives you a sense of the massive effort, resources, dollars and time necessary to achieve this objective with confidence.
- If this was part of the recent $2-Trillion Legislation Package ... it would have represented 17.5% of that total package.
$350,045,000,000 / $2,000,000,000,000 = 17.5 %
